Yesterday’s Labour Force data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics shows some significant [and alarming] firsts in the Youth [15-24] Labour Market:
- Youth Underemployment is at an all-time high = 18.0%
- Youth Under-utilisation [ both U/E & Under/E] is at an all time high = 31.5%
Not to mention that trend unemployment went from 12.9% to 13.1%… and full-time jobs seem to be a “thing of the past”
Follow the steepening path…
The sustained collapse in access to full-time jobs since the GFC and other looming demographic changes [see crossed-lines] presents policy-makers and community leaders with a rapidly and profoundly changing environment.
It seems reasonable to ask, do traditional pathways to work and independence still exist for the class of 2017 and beyond?
