Indigenous Suicide Prevention

Indigenous Suicide Rates in Australia

Most simply the single largest social policy failure in Australia’s history. A moral, ethical, policy and community failure.

The Australian Government  funded a national Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Suicide Prevention Evaluation Project (ATSISPEP).

This Project is run by the School of Indigenous Studies in partnership with the Telethon Kids Institute/University of Western Australia.  Professor Pat Dudgeon from the School of Indigenous Studies at UWA will lead the Project and A/Prof Roz Walker from the Telethon Kids Institute will oversee the development of the evaluation.

The project  will formally evaluate a range of existing Indigenous suicide prevention programs and services to enable the development of a much-needed evidence base for ‘what works’ in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander suicide prevention.
