What is Australia’s most Innovative industry? What is Australia’s NEWEST industry? What will be our newest industry?
The news that Apple is said to have enough Sapphire Glass for production of the new iPhone and rumoured iWatch for all of 2014 ( with 2,500 furnaces for production ) struck me as quite “matter-of-fact”.
Given the incredible and at times seemingly impossible innovations that occur for the development of such devices, the growth of genuinely new technologies,[ and the markets they open up ] whether it be the theoretical design of new substances [although Sapphire Crystal has been around since the early 1900’s] or the practical implementation of new engineering or manufacturing processes, leads me to think-out-loud about our own innovations and the environments, both political and social, that encourage and foster such innovations.
A cursory review of such clusters around the world, suggest alliances of all government jurisdictions, as well as key Education and Industry partners is then only solidified when the unique competitive advantages of place are locked in.
Place being the geographic region that combines unique skills, governance and policy settings [perhaps investment, taxation, regulation etc] to produce unique advantages.
The Regional Development Australia Conference [October 2014] will no doubt have much to add to these questions!
